Unexpected Pick-Up Line

Yesterday (Sunday), I went out to meet a friend of mine. And since I’m already in the mall I finally decided to go inside the bookstore to check some books which I find interesting to own. Normally, I don’t buy them in full price, I wait till the mall go on sale but since they are not on sale, and pretty much the books I want are just new releases, my chances are close to nil to get discounts.

Anyways, as I checked the shelves and having problem finding this list, I finally decided to go at customer service counter to ask some details about these books. And here things get, not sure how can I describe it but it was interesting, awkward, nice and funny or just simply awesome.

***The following conversations were translated in English…of course!

Me: Hi! Good afternoon! (I’m already smiling politely)

Anne: Good afternoon Sir. (Responded quite seriously)

Me: “I just wanted to ask if you have available Catching Fire by S. Collins which doesn’t require me to buy the whole series?”

Anne: “Sorry Sir but we already out-of-stock. You can only get them if you buy the whole series.”

***This is where I started asking a rhetorical question

Me: “Will it be possible if I just take and pay the second book from the bundle and just leave the remaining 2? (Of course, I meant this in a funny way)

***She is still serious in this part.

Anne: (Serious but politely responded) No, we can’t do that sir.

Me: “Sigh, OK. Hmmm, what about My Name Is Memory? I’m sorry I forgot the author’s name. Do you still have this available?”

Anne: “Let me check sir. Oh, you’re lucky; we still have this last copy. Here…”

***She handed the book and I started reading the back.

Me: “Ok miss, I’ll take this one and I wanted to ask if this is On-Sale? And, are you also giving discounts to new releases? And like, how much?”

Anne: “Usually, we do, but only on selected items only. The discounts vary from 10% to 20%.”

Me: “I have another question, do you have this book…ahhhmm, Probability of…being in LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT…ahmm, PROBABILITY OF LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT???…I am not sure about the title but it is something like that.”

**This changes everything…as in everything. Her seriousness, my politeness, my confidence, I felt more awkward but in a funny way.

Obviously, I was looking at her while saying these words and then I realized something. It made me think that saying these words probably give her the impression that I was doing my pick-up line on her. Why? Because she smiled after hearing the words (love at first sight) I’ve said especially the way I unintentionally delivered it.

Then, I paused, chuckled quickly and smiled at her and followed by a quick laugh which probably gave her the impression that I already realized what I did. Well, I really felt awkward and slightly felt embarrassed. So,here is my reaction:

Me: “Hahaha, that’s an awkward question but I’m just pertaining to the book. I don’t mean…” – followed by my silence and grin.

Anne: She smiled, chuckled and said “or second sight.”

Whoah! Did it work?! Lol

We laughed together after that and went straight to our first date…I mean business.

Remarks:

1. To be honest, she is really pretty.
2. Turns out, books titles can lead you in a good position or put in trouble. Lol
3. Finally, I really think starting to fall “in love”…with the books. Lol

Disclaimer:

I am not sure if I wrote this post properly. I mean, I know all my posts doesn’t have respect to proper grammar or tenses (Lol)…but I believe this one is the worst because I was multitasking while writing this. So, puh-lease, try to understand that I need to work while still trying to find sometime to entertain myself and of course you…my dearest “anticipated readers”! Lol

Enjoy life and have a great day.
